What is CRPS?
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a condition that causes long term pain, typically in a single region of the body. CRPS has a number of symptoms that people suffer from, and there are a variety of treatment options including: medications, heat or cold therapy, physical therapy, and electrical nerve simulation. Unfortunately, it is not well understood, and there are currently no definitive tests for CRPS or any known cure.
CRPS primarily affects women and is most common in individuals in their 30s and 40s. The condition typically materializes after the onset an injury (such as a collision), a major health event like a stroke or heart attack, or a disruptive procedure such as a surgery. It is rare in elderly people as well as younger children, but regardless of the victim, the condition causes severe chronic pain that is difficult to cope with and find relief from.
BeyondPain is hopeful that innovative research will provide solutions and relief to those who live with CRPS.
